How to download videos you see in Youtube, Google video and other sites in Firefox

Most of us watch videos in youtube.com, google videos, etc. Its the best time killer to see Charlie Chaplin, Maradona, Madonna, Amitabh, Magic, Rehman, Circus, etc (and what not?) on our finger tips :)

Have you ever wanted to download videos that you watch online from these sites? I bet you have.

Is it possible to download videos for offline viewing??

Yes, it is possible to download the videos in Firefox. Here is how:

There are few extensions available for Firefox which help us download videos. After analyzing those products, I have found that two of them are excellent to use. Both of them are recommendable.

These are the two extensions: Unplug and Video Downloader

Let me explain these in detail:

UnPlug is an extension which lets you save video and audio which is embedded on a webpage. UnPlug works for lots of sites including youtube.com, iflim.com, current.tv, myspace.com and revver.com

Steps to do it:

1. Download and install the extension

2. Restart Firefox. (You may like to copy these steps to somewhere else before restarting Firefox)

3. Visit this URL for a sample video from youtube: Elephants

4. Right click on blank space (outside the video window). You should see 'unplug' option in the context menu, if you have installed the extension correctly.

5. Click on the 'Unplug' option and you will be taken to this window:

6. The file will be saved in the path you specified. If it is a 'Flash' object, the extension will be .flv. Your Media Player will not be able to play this file. So, what I suggest you is, download VLC player, which can play 'flv' files.

Thats it.

Video Downloader

Download videos from Youtube, Google, etc. VideoDownloader add a small icon on the status bar at the bottom of your firefox window, and a toolbar button. Just click that and download the video you are watching !

Click Here for the video demonstration from the creators.

Its very simple to use.

Here is the download:

Overall, I prefer to use Unplug over Video Downloader because:

UnPlug is different from the VideoDownloader extension - The Videodownloader extension takes you to the videodownloader.com website, which then tells you where the video is kept based on the website's address. UnPlug will search what's on the page for where the video is using a few different methods. It can also ask videodownloader.com or keepvid.com for their help too.
